Rachel Bedford joined the Knight Campus in January of 2025. She earned her PhD at the University of Oregon, where her research focused on understanding the role of gap junction channels during the development of the neuromuscular system. During her postdoctoral training, she investigated mechanisms underlying motoneuron death and developed innovative genetic tools for the zebrafish research community. During this time, she also honed in on science writing, focusing on creating engaging and strategic communication approaches. In her role at the Knight Campus, she supports external science communication efforts.
