Why Brewing Innovation?

Innovation is a valuable skillset for any career path, involving implementing new ideas, methods, products, services, or solutions that have a significant positive impact and value for society. The Brewing Innovation minor uses brewing as backdrop for learning within the innovation process. Students in this minor will understand and define customer needs and the innovation challenge, and build their innovation skills in a rich, interdisciplinary setting that leverages science and engineering, history, innovation, and storytelling.

Q: Do I have to be over 21 to participate in the minor?
A: No. The state of Oregon allows students who are 18 years or older to participate, including tasting beers, in our courses. We expect all participants in the program to act responsibly and adhere to all course policies.

What's New at the Brewing Innovation Lab

Students from the Brewing Innovation Program at the Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact will unveil a special collaboration brew made with Toby Schock, head brewer at The Wheel a Pizza Pub, at a public tasting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

Every year on February 11, the United Nations marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science  —a day to spotlight the challenges women and girls face in STEM fields and celebrate their resilience, innovation, and success.

Join us for an Open House at 4 p.m. on Jan. 29, 2025, to learn more and meet some of the talented people behind University of Oregon's new Brewing Innovation Minor. An RSVP is required.
