Paul is a passionate educator, committed to exploring innovative ways to enhance student engagement and learning. He considers his role as: navigator, interpreter, coach and cheerleader. Over 25 years in higher education Paul has developed many applied, experiential, and often interdisciplinary courses, particularly in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship. Beyond credit courses, Paul has been actively involved in developing and scaling programs to support the commercialization of scientific inventions, with hundreds of start-ups successfully supported by the Creative Destruction Lab’s Vancouver site.
Prior to moving into education, Paul’s career in industry included time in advertising at J. Walter Thompson working across many industries, and ten years with Unilever, where he undertook major assignments in marketing, sales, and innovation.
Paul is a highly decorated educator, with multiple awards for excellence and innovation at UBC. In 2020, Paul was named a 3M Canada National Teaching Fellow, in recognition of sustained excellence in teaching, innovative pedagogy and educational leadership.
