Follow these steps to apply to our next cohort.

Step 1

Attend or Watch the Info Session

Please attend our info session on April 28 at 1:00 PM! If you missed the session, please watch the recording before applying. It covers eligibility requirements, the course sequence, brew day expectations, and what to expect from the program.

Check Your Eligibility

Before applying, make sure you meet these requirements. All eligible applicants are considered regardless of major.

Academic Standing

You must have completed at least one full academic year at university before the program begins.

Terms Remaining

You must have a minimum of four academic terms remaining until degree completion when the cohort begins.

Age Requirement

You must be 18 years or older. Oregon state law allows students 18+ to participate in brewing courses, including tastings.

🔬

No Prior Experience Needed

No previous brewing or beer knowledge required. The program teaches everything from tasting fundamentals to advanced brewing techniques.

Submit Your Application

Here's how the process works from start to finish.

Check your Academic Standing

To apply, students must have completed at least one academic year at the university and have a minimum of four academic terms remaining until degree completion (as the course sequence runs from Spring of one year through Spring of the following year).

Attend an Info Session (or Watch the Recording)

We strongly encourage all prospective applicants to attend an info session or watch the recorded version before applying. It covers everything you need to know about the program, including brew day scheduling and course expectations.

Submit Your Application Along with a Personal Statement

Complete the online application form and submit your personal statment. The next application will open in early 2027 for the Spring 2027 cohort. There is an annual application process — a new cohort is selected each year.

Receive Your Decision 

Decisions will be communicated to all applicants. Accepted students will begin the program in the Spring.

Course Sequence

The minor runs over four consecutive terms — from Spring of one year through Spring of the following year. All courses are 4 credits.

Spring — Year 1

BRIN 221

Tapping into the World of Beer and Brewing

An introduction to beer styles, brewing science, and the innovation process. Includes one brew day in Week 5.

Fall — Year 1

BRIN 322

Advanced Brewing Laboratory

Hands-on advanced brewing with three brew days. Deep dive into process science, fermentation, and quality analysis.

Winter — Year 2

BRIN 323

Brewing Innovation: Past, Present, and Future

Explores beer's history, culture, and what the future of brewing might look like through an innovation lens.

Spring — Year 2

BRIN 424

Capstone: Interdisciplinary Beer Design Lab

A culminating capstone project where students conceive, brew, brand, and present an original beer concept.

Important to Know

About Brew Days

Brew days are a required part of every course and happen on Fridays. They begin between 8:00 and 10:00 AM and last approximately five hours — you must be available for the full session.

Brew day dates are posted on the Courses page.

Open lab periods throughout the week also allow students to prepare materials and monitor fermentations — these are scheduled to accommodate student availability.
