Dear Knight Campus Community,
Welcome to a new academic year! As we step into the fall season, I’m excited to warmly welcome back all our faculty, staff, and students in the Knight Campus community. A special welcome also goes out to the new cohorts of 89 Knight Campus Graduate Internship Program (KCGIP) master's students and 7 Department of Bioengineering PhD students, and to the undergraduate students joining our Brewing Innovation minor, launching this fall. It’s truly exciting to watch our community grow and expand with such incredibly talented students and innovative programs. Our physical campus is expanding too, with the construction of Knight Campus Building 2, a 4-story state-of-the-art science building set to open in 2026. In June, University of Oregon President Karl Scholz approved four strategic goals, focusing on graduation pathways, career preparation, community building, and societal impact - endeavors that harmonize with our vision for continued development and the forthcoming activation of Building 2. This facility will further our capabilities, housing research groups focused on bioengineering and biomedical computational science, along with the expansion of the Papé Family Innovation Center.
Over the summer, the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance continued its groundbreaking work in transforming human health, including participation in the inaugural Global Sports University Network summit, fostering new collaborations and bridging barriers in the world of sport. The international event, hosted in part at the Knight Campus, included experts from six continents and 21 countries, collaborating around the theme of inclusivity in sport performance to explore how sport can drive global change.
Looking ahead, there are numerous opportunities to engage with the community this fall, including the Knight Campus birthday celebration on October 16, the Oregon Bioengineering Symposium hosted at Oregon Health & Science University, and the return of the Knight Campus Inside Lunch. We have excellent speakers lined up for the Entrepreneurship Speaker Series starting on October 8 and the Distinguished Lecture on November 6. Be sure to keep an eye out for our internal e-newsletter, Knight Campus Monthly, for more details and other important information.
Finally, our communications team recently completed the Knight Campus 2024 Annual Report, showcasing the milestones, stories, and achievements of the past year. I encourage you to read it to reflect on and celebrate just how far we have come even as we press ahead.
Fall is my favorite season for many reasons but one is the energy and promise of a new academic year poised with unlimited possibilities, thanks to our exceptional team of dedicated staff, distinguished faculty, and talented students. I am filled with pride in our achievements and look forward to what we will accomplish together in the months ahead. Thank you for your continued dedication and for making the Knight Campus such a special place to work, train, teach, and innovate towards achieving our goals and accelerating impact!
