Gift Enables Launch of College of Engineering
The $1 billion commitment will enable a college to be located at the Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact.
Phil and Penny Knight commit the largest gift ever given to a comprehensive public university, made with the intention to establish the Knight College of Engineering and expand the Knight Campus mission of accelerated innovation.

Vision of the Gift
The intended creation of the Knight College of Engineering builds on the original vision put forward by UO faculty who inspired Phil and Penny Knight to invest in the idea that we can accelerate the translation of new discoveries out into the real world where they can benefit society.
About the Gift
The college will be located at the Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact. It will:
- Scale our academic programs, educating engineers and applied scientists in bioengineering and other high-demand disciplines
- Amplify our mission of accelerated innovation
- Attract world-class faculty and researchers to a growing campus
- Accelerate the UO's ability to move discoveries out of the laboratory and into products, therapies, technologies, and companies that benefit society
