Ethan Dinh, a computer science major in the Clark Honors College and member of the 2022 Knight Campus Undergraduate Scholars program, has been awarded a prestigious Goldwater Scholarship.
Mentored by Knight Campus Executive Director Robert Guldberg, Guldberg Lab manager and research engineer Kelly Leguineche and postdoctoral scholar Genevieve Romanowicz, Dinh is of two UO students to receive the award and one of 413 U.S. college students to be named as scholars. UO psychology major Alexa Wright was also named a recipient. The award is designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue research careers in the fields of the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics and is the preeminent undergraduate award of its type in those fields, according to the Goldwater Foundation.
Dinh plans to pursue an advanced degree in biomedical data science. He hopes to teach at the university level and conduct research to improve patient care by leveraging machine learning predictive algorithms.
