Brewing Innovation Release Party set for Dec. 9 at Claim 52

BRIN Minor Students behind the bar

The Knight Campus Brewing Innovation (BRIN) program will host a public tasting and showcase on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 5–8 p.m. at Claim 52 (upstairs) in Eugene. The event celebrates the inaugural cohort of BRIN students and highlights three imaginative, student-designed beers brewed in collaboration with Eugene’s craft community.

Each team’s beer represents a full journey from concept to prototype to pour, bringing together chemistry, design, storytelling, and the art of sensory experience. Guests will have the chance to sample the beers, meet the students, and hear firsthand how chemistry and creativity blend in the classroom and the brewery alike.

Program co-founder and director Jim Hutchison said the showcase captures the essence of the program’s mission.

"Everything we’re doing is really about craft beer — the intersection of brewing with place,” Hutchison said. “Beer brings people together and it’s an incredible platform for innovation training.”

That spirit of collaboration extends beyond the classroom. Local brewers have mentored students through tasting sessions, design critiques, and Shark Tank-style reviews. That partnership comes full circle at Claim 52, which will host the celebration and provide a space for the community to connect with the next generation of brewing innovators and experience the results of a term-long creative process.
