Courses Taught by Professor Ong

Biosensors (Bioe 410)

This course introduces the student to the fundamentals of biosensor development and applications. Students will develop an understanding on various sensor technologies, biological components, immobilization methods, fabrication techniques, and applications. No prerequisites.

BioDesign (Bioe 410)

Biodesign is tailored for students with entrepreneurship aspirations to improve healthcare through technology innovation. While the focus of this project-based course is the design process of medical products, topics such as market analysis, early funding model, quality management, regulatory pathways, etc. will also be covered from the perspective of an engineer or scientist. A series of lectures from the instructor and guest speakers with medical startup experience will guide students through their projects. This course will provide students with a basic understanding of the medical product development process, from the initial idea stage to product launch. No prerequisites.

 

The Ong Lab 

In 2020, the Ong Lab relocated to the University of Oregon's Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact. Based in the Department of Bioengineering in Eugene, Oregon, the Ong Lab develops and deploys novel sensor systems for medical applications.
