The Department of Bioengineering Seminar Series concluded for the 2022-23 academic year with a panel discussion on entrepreneurship, with six Knight Campus staff and students sharing their journeys to explore impact and innovation.

Over the course of the academic year, the department has hosted 50 speakers on a variety of themes and topics. The vision of the seminar series is to showcase its vibrant and growing research community within the Bioengineering Department, to facilitate network opportunities with the broader scientific community, and to foster collaborations. The seminar series is also a platform for students and early career researchers to hone their science communication skills by presenting to the Knight Campus community. The seminars are just one of many ways the department highlights opportunities to develop career skills.

"It’s been wonderful seeing the BioE seminar series come to life with speakers from a diverse range of scientific backgrounds, nationalities, and seniorities," said Assistant Professor Gabriella Lindberg. "I have especially enjoyed our panel styled seminars to help explore perspectives across subject matters. Another key ingredient that makes this seminar series unique is the exceptional support from the impact team who has facilitated pre-presentation support so that trainees can keep building communication skills”

To recognize scientific excellence, the first annual award ceremony celebrated presentations that stand out in terms of impact, effective communication, and significance that aligns with the Knight Campus vision. The award for Best Postdoctoral Presentation went to Nataliia Shchotkina, who is in The Lindberg Lab. The Best PhD Student Presentation went to bioengineering student Tyler Guyer from The Guldberg lab.
