Semiconductors are the powerful materials that make modern technology possible- they’re the reason your phone, car, and computer can think, sense, and connect. What makes them exciting is that they can be engineered atom‑by‑atom to behave in remarkable ways. By forming billions of nanoscale switches, we can create the computer chips that drive everything from AI to renewable energy. At this workshop, participants will step into the cleanroom and learn about materials and techniques that go into making these technologies possible, experiencing firsthand how the future gets made.
Stipend:
$275 for community college students
$800 for educators (high school teachers and community college instructors)
Lodging & Mileage:
For participants traveling over 50 miles, lodging and mileage may be covered. Organizers will determine if your unique scenario is reimbursable through UO policy.
Eligibility:
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Minimum of 18 years of age at the time of the workshop
- Current enrolled at community college or community college STEM instructor or high school STEM teacher
- For students, you must have completed at least 1 STEM course with a C or better grade.
Application Deadline & Notice of Selection:
- Applications due by Monday October 5th.
- Selected participants will be notified beginning Monday October 12th on a rolling basis until all spots are filled.
