The $1.3M Workforce Ready Future Ready Oregon grant concluded on June 30 after three years of expanding pathways into high-tech careers for students with significant financial need. It supported more than 60 research experiences (across chemistry, biochemistry, physics, and bioengineering) for 45 UO undergraduate students, more than 50 scholarships for KCGIP students and more than 30 scholarships for students at regional community colleges who were on a path to transfer to UO for a 4-yr degree in physics, chemistry or biochemistry.
Additionally the program supported numerous community-building events to help undergraduate students build a sense of belonging within STEM Professional development and STEM career exposure activities for bachelor and master students Programming leveraged the Knight Campus IMPACT Team and tapped KCGIP's expertise in future workforce training. It built on the momentum of the NSF Oregon Pathways to Industry Research Careers program — NSF Science Pathways – A Program of the Knight Campus and UO STEM CORE — a multi-institutional program that supports STEM degree progression for students who start at community college and culminates with a degree from the Knight Campus Graduate Internship Program.
